10 Delicious Ways to Pamper Yourself When You're on a Budget

A new season is upon us, which means time to pamper yourself! 

Or maybe not, unless you are like me and you are always looking for reasons to spoil yourself. I believe we all deserve to feel special despite the number of zeros in our bank accounts. 

As an almost always broke student, I went on a quest to find ways I can pamper myself on a budget. Here are some useful tips I found.

 

 

10 Simple Ways to Pamper Yourself on a Budget

1. Enjoy breakfast in bed.

There is something about occasionally having a slow start to your day.

It is just so relaxing and allows you to start the day on a chill note. Once in a while, give that cereal bowl a break and make yourself some toast, an omelet, some pancakes or even just a large cup of your favorite hot drink. 

Slip back into bed, and enjoy your breakfast. Remember to keep your phone away so you can properly enjoy yourself. 

 

2. Make your bedroom as cozy as possible.

Finishing off your crazy day in a soft and cozy bedroom is unmatched.

Invest in some good quality sheets; you deserve them (and they last longer). Declutter your room and have some open space to allow a proper flow of fresh air. Lastly, get some good lights or lampshades that will make your room look and feel like sleep heaven. 

 

3. Buy yourself some flowers.

My friends thought I was a weirdo for this until they tried it.

We are so used to having other people appreciate and buy us flowers that we think the idea of doing it for ourselves is bizarre. It’s not. Get yourself some flowers, they don’t have to be from a fancy florist. Trust me, you will love how it makes you feel, and you will most likely do it again. 

 

4. Get a good quality perfume.

This might be a bit pricey, but it will last for a long time, so you will likely not need to buy another one anytime soon. (Hot tip: This is a great way to redeem some of those reward points you've been saving up.) 

Smelling good sparks positive emotions and just puts you in a good mood. When you spray a good perfume, you feel as good as you look. 

 

5. Dress up.

We typically dress up when we have an event or ‘a reason’ to look good.

Sometimes we need to look good for ourselves. Wear your nice outfit, do your make-up and feel good!

 

6. Take a bubble bath.

This is most people’s favorite, and I totally understand why that is the case.

Pick a day where you fill the tub with warm (or like in my case, hot) water.

  • Pour some bubble bath that smells good
  • Get your favorite book or glass (or maybe bottle, we are not judging anyone here) of wine
  • soak yourself in the bath and forget about everything else
  • Allow your body and mind to relax

Finish off with a soothing body scrub, and remember to add some candles for a wow effect. 

 

7. Do your nails. 

A simple manicure and pedicure can really make a difference. Cut and file your nails, paint them nicely and look gorgeous. 

 

8. Get good quality underwear.

Wearing good quality and beautiful underwear boosts your confidence and changes the way you see yourself.

Protect your nether regions by wearing less lace, and more cotton. Occasionally get measured to see your exact bra size. Our bodies are constantly changing, so your bra size will most likely fluctuate over time.

Get some comfy, well-fitted and supportive bras and say bye to underwear that digs into your skin. 

 

9. Do a face mask.

You can use one from the store or experiment with a homemade one. Not only will this make you feel spoiled and pampered, but your skin will also appreciate the gesture. If you are extra like me, as your mask dries up, ditch the tidying up, rather lay down and cover your eyes with cucumbers or wet tea bags. 

 

10. Sing along to your favorite music.

Doing this in the morning as I get ready or as I drive to campus always gets my spirits high.

It makes me happy and makes me feel like I can do anything and be anything I want to be. 

 

 

You Deserve to Pamper Yourself (Even When You’re Broke)

Capitalism has sold us the idea that for us to pamper ourselves, we need to spend money.

Well, in this economy, that means most of us will never know the pleasures of being pampered. We live in a fast-paced world, but sometimes you need to stop and refuel.

We work so hard in different sectors, and at the end of the day, we all deserve some TLC.

Take a day or just an afternoon to yourself and have a mini-mental vacation. Do what makes you feel good. Start off the day with a good breakfast, shower while singing along to your favorite song, wear your cute outfit and be productive.

At the end of the day, come back to a nice clean bedroom and get the rest you deserve.

  1. Check out "the Nature Fix" by Florence Williams. Besides being very well written (= reading enjoyment), this book scientifically proves that any time spent in nature reduces stress, lowers blood pressure and makes most people feel better about everything. Science can be complicated, but in this case it's pretty simple: more nature = more personal benefit.

    Parks and forests are a free method of getting some nature on. After I read the Forest Fix book, I visited our local forest preserve and noticed that I felt somehow uplifted and way more relaxed within a few minutes of walking through the trees. I really liked being there.

    Walking on your lawn (or a city park lawn) in bare feet might sound weird to the modern mind until you try it; physically connecting with the planet in this way actually feels amazingly good. It's one of those things that sounds too simple to be true, but try it and see for yourself how cool this is. I was a complete cynic about "earth connection" until I tried it once, and now I'm writing about it lol.

    Many cities have botanical (flower and tree) gardens which fill your mind and spirit with the beauty of nature. I live in a place where a library card includes free admission to local botanical gardens - how cool is that!

    1. That IS cool Mik! Being out in nature always feels so good. It forces us to get back to our roots, as you said. We're also losing a lot of those places, because not everyone sees their importance. We need more people like you to keep those places alive. I'm going to look into this Forest Fix book right away. 🙂

  2. I pamper myself occasionally by taking time in nature. I will go for a hike in a local forest then come home, do a foot soak and enjoy a healthy meal followed up with a big bowl of popcorn, my favourite beverage and a good movie! Bliss.
