There are two kinds of people in this world. The ones who love getting in direct contact with linen (or their significant others) and those convinced that the worst will happen if they sleep naked. I used to be one of the latter. 

Growing up, most of us were convinced there were monsters under our beds. It took me a while to accept that there are no monsters in my room. But considering the speed at which I run to my bed after turning off the lights, I think a part of me still believes that when it’s dark, bad things will happen.

With this belief at the back of my head, I figured if the monsters are going to come and get me, I should at least be dressed. 

As a result, I always invested in awesome, good quality and fun nightwear. I think at some point, buying pajamas and nightdresses was my favorite thing to do. I never went to bed naked, and I found it weird that some people were sleeping naked every single night. 

One night, my life changed forever. I got back from a girls night out tired and tipsy. I took off my clothes, threw myself on the bed and fell asleep. That turned out to be one of the best nights' sleep I had ever had.

In the morning, I was confused. I wondered if I had a good night because of the wine I had had or because I had slept naked. 

The researcher and reader in me came to the surface, and I decided to do a bit of research on the topic. The findings were astounding!

Because I am a firm believer in sharing knowledge, I am sitting here writing this article in the hope that it will help you realize what you are missing or the extent to which your sleeping attire has been beneficial.

1. It makes cuddle time better.

Cuddling with clothes on is definitely not the same as cuddling nude. Body contact increases affection and brings you closer to one another. Moreover, skin-to-skin contact also enhances the release of oxytocin, the ‘love hormone’ responsible for making you feel closer to your partner and less stressed in general.

 

2. Sleeping naked allows you to fall asleep faster.

Say goodbye to twisting and turning and listening to hours of sleep-inducing podcasts before you actually fall asleep.

Going to bed naked means you will have a lower and cooler body temperature which will help regulate your circadian rhythm and help you fall asleep faster. Attempting to sleep with a higher body temperature can result in insomnia. 

 

3. It helps improve body image.

Have you ever noticed how comfortable in their bodies nudists are?

That is because they spend time appreciating and embracing every inch of their bodies such that whatever standards society sets do not necessarily affect them. 

Surely not all of us can be nudists, but we can also appreciate and fall in love with our bodies. Sleeping naked allows you to see and appreciate all your ‘imperfections’. If you have a partner, knowing that someone has seen your whole body and still loves you will also boost your confidence. 

 

4. It helps reduce the likelihood of yeast infections.

In addition to the duvet, our cozy PJs can get a little too warm when we are sleeping, and this has the potential of throwing our vaginal pH off.

Yeast thrives in moist and warm environments, so sleeping naked allows your lady parts to stay cool and get some fresh air, thereby reducing the chances of a yeast infection. 

 

5. It improves male fertility.

Similar to females, the male bits also benefit from fresh air and cool temperatures.

Research has shown that heat can have a negative impact on sperm. Sleeping naked will improve the quality of your sperm, and should you be hoping to make a baby, that will definitely make the trying process more effective. 

 

6. Sleeping naked improves your skin. 

Our largest organ can be very sensitive to a lot of sweat.

Wearing clothes to bed makes us sweaty, which can result in rashes or breakouts. Considering that most of us are not brave enough or, rather, comfortable enough to walk around naked throughout the day, the best we can do is allow our skin to breathe at night. 

 

 

Ditch Your PJs and Get Better Sleep!

Clearly, sleeping naked has more advantages than disadvantages.

From keeping your nether regions healthy and more productive to the cool body temperature and the improved body image, the health benefits and improved sleep can be enjoyed by anyone. 

To enhance your sleep quality, make sure your bedroom is dark and invest in some good-quality sheets that will feel great on your skin. 

At first, sleeping naked might feel awkward, but once you try it, you will never go back. I’m sure those who have been doing it can agree with me. After a long day at work, rolling in bed naked will grant you a good night's rest. 

So, ditch your PJs and enjoy the joys, benefits and comfort of sleeping naked!

  1. This sounds delightful but not very practical unless you take a shower before bed every night, have a bidet or launder your bed linens daily ( I’m sure you get my drift !)
