We all have those moments — big or small — that mark a special achievement or a milestone in our lives.
But how often do we actually stop to celebrate these wins?
Personally, this is something I’ve struggled with, never one for the spotlight. It can be tough to acknowledge ourselves when we achieve a goal or a win.
And, yet, every single mental wellness and confidence blog tells us never to forget to celebrate your wins every step of the way (I’m even guilty of preaching this myself but not exactly following through).
Whether it's nailing a presentation at work, hitting a personal fitness goal, or simply getting through a tough week, there's always a reason to pat yourself on the back.
And I’ll be the first to say we should. (I’m also on a quest to improve the language I use with myself, so let me back up a second here…)
We are going to (no “should”) celebrate our wins!
And a reminder for you and me: It doesn’t have to be anything huge. Celebrating these moments can range from grand gestures, like a big dinner, to small, personal acknowledgments, like a bit of positive self-talk, that remind you of your capabilities and hard work.
So, if you’re scrunching your nose up a bit and at a loss of how exactly to do that, we’ve got you.
Never one to celebrate my own wins, we’re starting now. Here’s how!
I know Oprah Winfrey has been bashed a few times in the press lately for some of her older interviews that haven’t exactly aged well. But we gotta still love her; plus, she puts this concept of celebrating wins so perfectly when she said,
“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”
And I firmly believe that life is an experience to be celebrated. After all, we only get one shot at this (and, not to get too dark, but we definitely can’t celebrate when we’re gone).
Celebrating our victories, even the tiny ones, can foster appreciation.
We see that we can achieve what we set out to do — proving to ourselves our worth and our power time and time again.
So, let’s get straight to the good stuff: How can you celebrate your wins?
Did you accomplish a goal recently? And hey, even if that’s making a homemade meal tonight, kudos. That is something. So, let’s celebrate.
Let’s state the obvious… And if you’re cooking a homemade meal, the treat itself is in the outcome (hopefully!). Yet, if you recently crushed a goal (any goal), consider a small treat. Inevitably, this has to be within your budget and goals, too, but there are still tons of options.
For example, you could plan a mini-getaway or vacation. You could finally watch that movie or show you’ve been putting off. You could go and grab a few hobby supplies for yourself. Or you could even just take a day off and put your legs up and relax!
Goals provide us with milestones to work toward. Best of all, they often give us meaning and purpose. But once we get to a goal, we might actually feel a little lost.
So, instead of the traditional celebratory dinners (or do that too!), maybe this particular win means celebrating by sitting down and mapping out your next one.

Don't hesitate to share your win with friends, family, or colleagues.
Joy and positivity are definitely meant to be amplified, and sharing can have that effect. I mean think about it: How much joy do you get when others you love succeed or accomplish their goals? Personally, I thrive off of it.
And heck, if it’s a big win, get everybody together to celebrate. After all, we aren’t alone in rarely celebrating things in life, and everyone loves a good excuse for optimism and positivity.
Seriously. Just don’t do anything, but whatever you think would help you unwind. Watch your favorite show. Read your favorite book.
This can be a wonderful way to celebrate without overwhelm (hello, introverts!) and can also help you reset for whatever lies ahead or after this particular win.

Don’t have a list of wins? Start one!
This list can offer a list of accomplishments and moments of pride for you to come back to, particularly when you’re low or don’t feel like yourself. In turn, this can remind you of what you can accomplish and how great life can be.
It can also be a reminder that despite the lows, there are many highs and that perhaps without the lows, we wouldn’t relish in those highs as much or maybe even recognize them at all.
This may entirely depend on the context of your win.
But if it makes sense, establish a new tradition that you do each time you achieve a goal. It could be as simple as taking a long walk, visiting a certain place, or enjoying a particular treat. Or perhaps it’s going out for a nice dinner with your favorite person.
This is your permission slip to do so.
Whether it's through sharing your success with others, treating yourself, investing in your future, or simply taking a moment to reflect on your achievements, each act of celebration is a step toward recognizing your own worth and potential.
So, go ahead and embrace these moments of triumph. Let them be a source of strength and inspiration as you continue on your path.
After all, each success, no matter its size, is a testament to your capabilities and a building block for your aspirations. Here's to celebrating every win and embracing the journey ahead with enthusiasm and confidence!
