The effects of traumatic experiences can linger for a long time.

 

You might find yourself stuck in survival mode, just trying to get through the day.

 

Many of us try to find relief in any way possible, even if it means purposely distracting ourselves from the effects of our experiences.

 

Using emotional-avoidance strategies may work for a short while, but you may still find that the unpleasant feelings return unexpectedly, often with increased intensity.

 

For example, you may randomly burst into tears or snap over little things.

 

Staying in survival mode for too long can greatly harm your well-being.

 

Slowly work towards using a new approach towards healing and improving your ability to experience joy.
