No matter where you are in your journey, you always have something to offer, whether it’s your compassion, your skills, or the wisdom gained from your unique experiences.
It’s also important to be open to receiving help, embracing kindness, and learning from the experience of others.
Wonderful outcomes can take shape when we combine our strengths and diverse perspectives.
"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For indeed, that's all who ever have." - Margaret Mead
Let’s explore this week’s inspiring stories that highlight the lasting power of human collaboration:
Australian influencer Sam Weidenhofer uses social media to spread kindness and support those in need.
He recently shared the heartfelt story of 88-year-old Ed Bambas, who had been working at a Michigan supermarket.
After Ed’s former employer took away his pension, he was forced to return to work nearly a decade ago, trying to cope with both mounting bills and the grief of losing his wife.
Sam’s video went viral, inspiring an online fundraiser to help Ed finally retire. People from around the world came together and raised more than $1.7 million!
Ed was overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible generosity and compassion he received from so many kind-hearted people.
"I just wanted to give him a chance to retire. You know, at least have some comfort," said Sam.
Three first graders jumped into action when their teacher suddenly began choking on her lunch.
23-year-old Madison Swift couldn’t breathe after a piece of food became lodged in her throat.
Acting fast, Derek Contreras-Franco hit the emergency call button, Bryson Doss ran to get another teacher, and Colton Hersh delivered firm back blows that finally dislodged the food and saved Madison.
The students’ quick thinking and bravery are earning praise from people all over the world!
“At the beginning of the year, I built that trusted and loved relationship, and so they saw their teacher in crisis, and they just kind of jumped into action right away,” said Madison.
As part of the “Bring a Blanket for Bridging” event, volunteers distributed new and gently used blankets to community members in need.
Bridging is a non-profit organization based in Minnesota that provides essential household items to families transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.
Thanks to the community’s generous support, thousands of families can feel warmer and more supported this winter.
“It's just everything. It's what we're here to do. We're here for each other, you know? We're here for the community. We're here to help people,” said Tyler Johnson, from Original Mattress Factory.
Pilots to the Rescue is a group of volunteer pilots who dedicate their time to saving animals in need.
They help transport animals from overcrowded shelters, protecting them from the risk of being euthanized.
These volunteer pilots fly the animals to rescue organizations across the country, where they’re connected with new families and given a chance at a better life.
“I love waking up and getting excited about going to work, and I have a tremendous sense of fulfillment doing this work, and we're really truly saving lives,” said Michael Schneider, Founder and Executive Director, Pilots to the Rescue.
