Yeah, that heading above is one big statement. But once you try this smoothie, there’s no going back, especially if you’re a bit of a peanut butter fanatic like myself. 

Plus, smoothies are super easy. There’s little preparation and zero mixing; your blender does all the work. Personally, this is my favorite way to start off my morning (despite maybe the loud noise of the blender but the result is totally worth it!).

Well, first off, there’s the taste. I love peanut butter, as in it’s one of those foods that I never get sick of. But there’s more to this smoothie than that. So, let’s take a closer look at those ingredients and how they contribute to improved mental health and wellness.

 

Bananas Help Regulate Your Mood

In other words, they don’t make you go bananas (Sorry, I couldn’t resist). As you can probably guess, bananas' magic powers come from their incredible nutrient content. 

This delicious fruit contains tryptophan, an amino acid that the body converts into serotonin, a neurotransmitter known to promote feelings of well-being and happiness. Higher levels of serotonin are associated with improved mood.

Bananas also contain vitamin B6. This vitamin, found in bananas, aids in the synthesis of neurotransmitters, including serotonin and dopamine. As you might already know, these chemicals play a crucial role in mood regulation. 

And interestingly, vitamin B6 has been shown to relieve anxiety and depression symptoms. This is yet another indication that what we eat inevitably impacts how we feel.

The Best Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie

Ingredients:
  • ¾ cup of almond milk
  • 1 large banana
  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (preferably creamy)
  • ½ cup of Greek yogurt
  • ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Optional: one scoop of chocolate protein powder or cocoa
Instructions:
  1. Throw all your ingredients in a blender. If you don’t have a super high-powered one (like a Vitamix), it might be wise to chop up the banana beforehand, especially if it’s frozen.
  2. Blend until smooth, then enjoy! Bonus points if you top it with a bit of granola, chocolate chips, or coconut bits.
