From a boost in self-esteem to romantic attraction, it’s safe to say that grooming is an important aspect in dating and life in general that men shouldn’t take for granted.

The beauty industry tends to focus mostly on women, and we are used to seeing ads for shampoos, cosmetics, razors, nail polish and deodorants for ladies. But what about for men?

Whether you are looking to develop a new routine now that we are going back to socializing, or you are getting into the dating scene, taking care of yourself on the inside and outside can give you an added boost of confidence.

While appearances are certainly not everything, and your self-worth is not based only on what you look like, feeling confident about how you present yourself can give you a huge boost of self-esteem. A grooming routine is part of general good hygiene, but it's also part of self-care. And we all deserve that!

8 Areas of Self-Care & Grooming For Men

1. Hair

Whether you have a full head of hair, or you are rocking a shaved or bald head, you deserve to feel cared for! Start scheduling a routine haircut or grooming service at least every few weeks to look sharp throughout the month.

Whether you go to a salon or a full on barber, taking care of your hair and scalp (And even get a little scalp massage while you're at it!) will keep you looking and feeling more groomed.

2. Feet

No partner wants rough, dry feet rubbing against them! Also, men wear open toed shoes too - and some don't know what to do about foot care.

This is why having your toenails cleaned and trimmed with a pedicure would keep a lot of fungi and bacteria at bay. According to GQ, plenty of men get pedicures.

While it can be about pampering yourself, it's also a good way to give your hard-working feet some TLC to keep them healthy, avoiding issues like ingrown toenails and cracks in the skin or heels.

If you're not ready for a man pedi - simply moisturizing your feet daily as part of your routine can help you avoid cracked heels and other issues.

3. Ear, nose and eyebrow hair

Do you have loose ear and nose hair that’s not under control? If not, then they can be very uninviting. Invest in an ear and nose trimmer and slant nose tweezers to get it done or go to your barber with your routine cut appointment.

4. Manscaping

Body hair can be a huge source of concern for some men. Some have no hair at all, while some are just naturally really hairy. How you take care of it is a very personal choice, and there are many options available to you. Waxing, shaving and trimming are all options, but be careful if you have sensitive skin.

Manscaping or grooming above and below the belt is very important. Self-confidence, hygiene, no odors, no itchiness - these are just some of the reasons why manscaping is too big to overlook! Don’t hesitate to invest in a manscaping kit to really keep you well-groomed all over.

5. Manicure your hands

Even though we haven’t completely wiped out COVID-19 yet and physical distancing is still advised, it is still wise to keep your hands clean and soft. From handshakes to holding hands with our lovers, keeping our fingers, nails and hands healthy is important.

Clean and file your nails and push down those cuticles with the help of a pro.

6. Skincare

Men moisturize too! Take care of your skin by cleansing, toning, moisturizing and exfoliating it.

By having a morning and night time skincare routine, you can prevent your skin from being prone to acne, dust, sweat and oil. Many men don't prioritize sunscreen either, which can help with wrinkles, but more importantly, can help you avoid sun damage.

On top of that, don’t forget to use a good eye cream to avoid tired and puffy eyes! This can also help you relax after a long, stressful day.

7. Signature scent

Having your own signature scent makes you stand out from the rest. There are a lot of fragrances out there that can work best for you and suits your personality. You will never know until you start exploring.

Smells can trigger vivid emotions in people, so whether you are looking to make an impression on someone, or just finding a scent that makes you feel powerful every time you put it on, there's something out there for you.

8. Oral hygiene

Oral hygiene is not to be compromised. Coming off as someone with bad breath or having food stuck in your teeth is the last thing you want to experience. Make sure you brush at least twice a day and follow it by thorough flossing.

Using mouthwash after brushing and having some gum, mints, or breath strips handy after each meal is also highly recommended if you are socializing.

Self-Care Can Build Self-Confidence

That’s it. These are just some grooming habits that you should follow to help you feel and look your best.

You’d be surprised by how these simple grooming habits can give a huge boost to your self-confidence, and help you start building your own self-care routine.
