From making a good impression to preventing disease, a good personal hygiene routine can do it all. Having personal hygiene simply means caring for your body. This practice incorporates bathing, washing your hands, brushing your teeth, and other cleanliness activities.

Every day, you come into contact with millions of outside germs and viruses which tend to linger on our bodies, and thus, lead to sickness. Maintaining personal hygiene helps you and the ones in your surrounding by preventing illnesses.

Why Maintain Personal Hygiene

Poor personal hygiene habits, however, can lead to minor and major side effects. If we don’t wash our hands frequently, we can easily transfer germs and bacteria to our mouth or eyes. This can lead to any number of issues, from stomach viruses to pink eye.

Irregular brushing of teeth causes several problems including plaque buildup. The lack of proper dental care increases the risk factors for a lot of severe health issues, such as heart diseases.

Scabies, mites, hair, and body lice are also results of not maintaining proper personal hygiene.

There are many areas of personal hygiene and we will go through the most significant ones in this article. Each person’s idea of personal hygiene differs. These primary classifications are a valuable spot to begin for building great hygiene habits as these are places for microorganism accumulation:

Washroom Hygiene

Toilet hygiene is one of the crucial types that we should be the most careful about. The excretions of humans are very toxic, lethal, and infectious because of the presence of an abundance of bacteria.

Body Hygiene

Body hygiene is also very important as our body comes in contact with a lot of different surfaces, humans, and animals. There is no telling of how many infectious, harmful and toxic substances, bacteria, and/or viruses we come in contact with throughout the day. So properly showering every day has become mandatory.

Nail Hygiene

Nail hygiene is often ignored and not taken seriously, which is not a very good practice as nails could be harboring significant proportions of dust and bacteria, which could be easily taken into the body through the mouth while the consumption of food.

Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is the most overlooked form of hygiene. People seem to disregard oral hygiene as most people have no idea of the kind of bacteria that can accumulate there.

Sickness Hygiene

Sickness hygiene relates to the precautions taken to minimize the spread of the disease in question. Personal hygiene not only benefits us but also the people around us. For example, if we are down with a viral fever and if we maintain personal hygiene we will be helping the people around us by not spreading the virus further.

Hand Washing

Hand hygiene is the demonstration of cleaning hands to remove soil, earth, and microorganisms. Since we mostly come into contact with our hands, our hands are very prone to hosting bacteria.

How To Maintain Personal Hygiene?

We know that maintaining a personal hygiene routine is important, but where is a good place to start? We covered some easy steps to follow which will help you to stay clean and combat the nasty germs that could lead to illness or bad odors.

Toilet Hygiene

Wash your hands with soap every time you go to the washroom. You should use at least half a minute to clean your hands. We often wash our hands but fail to do so properly. Scrub between the fingers, on the back, and also under the nails. If possible, use warm water to rinse.

Wet hands are more susceptible to accumulating bacteria, so make sure to dry your hands properly. In absence of water or soap, use an alcohol-based sanitizer, preferably one with at least 60% alcohol.

Shower Hygiene

Do you have to shower every single day? Not quite. Study shows that showering every alternative day is enough. But when you do, use bath amenities as they clean away unwanted dead skin cells, oil, and kill harmful bacteria.

Oil also accumulates in our hair. These residues can irate the scalp and cause dandruff. Hence, it is important to wash hair at least twice a week with shampoo.

Nail Hygiene

How long should you let your nails grow? Long nails look pretty but they are infestation zones for microorganisms. Therefore, it is necessary to trim nails every two weeks.

Keep a nail brush or washcloth to rinse your nails. Since we use our fingers to hold food and touch our faces, having dirt and germs under our nails can be highly unsafe.

Also, while we are on the topic, biting your nails is nasty and unhygienic.

Oral Hygiene

Good dental hygiene is not just shining white teeth. Catering after your oral cavity means looking after your teeth and gums to prevent gum diseases. You should brush twice daily for roughly 2 minutes each round. This should be once you wake up and again before you go to bed. However, brushing after every meal is even better.

In addition, floss your teeth every day and use antibacterial mouthwash under the discretion of a dentist. These exercises will prevent tooth decay and kill bacteria and germs if they set up camp.

Sickness Hygiene

If you are under the weather, there are chances of the germs spreading from you to another. To prevent this spread of germs, cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. Use antibacterial wipes to clean surfaces you come in contact with and don’t share utensils with other people. This need not be said, but don’t handle food and also, dispose of soiled tissues.

Hand Hygiene

The gateway for germs into our bodies is through our body openings such as our mouth, eyes, nose, and ears. Therefore, it is necessary to wash hands before managing food or eating, and after handling garbage or answering any call of nature. Clean your hands also after touching an animal or after sneezing or coughing.

Just like how germs can spread from one to another, they have transfer vice versa. So, wash your hands after changing a baby’s diaper, or cleaning an injury, or helping someone clean themselves.

    When it comes to losing everything that you are and do. I feel like no one have the to judge them unless it becomes a problem for others . How live there is their business. Health condition and concerns are addressed according to them.. There's nothing like losing yours rights of privacy and safety. Personally addressed.
